The Importance of a Clean Driving Record

Written by: The Law Offices of Garrett T. Ogata

If you don’t manage to get your DUI charges dropped, you may still manage to get a reduced sentence if you use an experienced Las Vegas personal injury lawyer. However, the much better decision would be to not get a DUI in the first place and keep your driving record clean. A squeaky clean driving record may not seem like an important thing, but it can make your life difficult when you’ve got a bunch of tickets and more severe black marks like DUIs.

Even with a reduced sentence, your license is likely to be suspended for a minimum of 90 days, if it’s your first offence, and you’ll be eligible for a restricted license after 45 days. This will enable you to drive to work and back, but that’s it. You might be fine with this, but what about your responsibilities to other people? If you have children, how are you going to be able to drive them around? If you have a spouse, they will now be responsible for driving you and your children around until your license is reinstated.

Though you may have heard it before:  Driving is a privilege; not a right. Losing that privilege can make you appreciate it more, but hopefully it won’t come to that. To avoid being pulled over for a DUI in Las Vegas and tarnishing your driving record, ensure that you always have a designated driver, and avoid:

  • Weaving or drifting
  • Turning too widely
  • Tailgating
  • Stopping for no reason

All of these things are grounds for being pulled over and potentially being administered a BAC test by an officer. Protect your license, and remember, drive safely.
