Recently Las Vegas police announced that they will be contacting juveniles and adults who police believe that he or she has joined a gang or are associating with known gang members. Members of the gang crimes bureau will be contacting suspects in person or by mail. Minors will have their parents or guardians contacted by METRO in person.

This appears to be what is known as a “Knock and Talk.” This is when law enforcement comes knocking on your door in hopes of furthering their investigation or just to get lucky. Law enforcement will typically ask for permission to enter your residence. It is important to remember that you DO NOT have to answer the door and you DO NOT have to consent to a search. Law enforcement must have a warrant to enter your residence, unless there is an exception, such as someone consenting or giving law enforcement permission to come in to talk. Police will lie and make threats a well, so it is just better to ignore any unwelcome visits.
