How to Calculate Your BAC before You Drive

If there’s one thing that drunk people are notoriously bad at, it’s judging whether they’re okay to drive. Have you ever had to take the keys away from a friend who was stumbling toward the car, insisting that they weren’t too drunk to drive? If you have had some drinks and you want to be responsible about driving, the best thing to do is make a blanket rule never to drive after consuming alcohol. As any Las Vegas DUI defense lawyer would suggest, short of completely abstaining from driving, the next best thing is to calculate what your BAC, or blood alcohol content, actually is.

There is a chart from a source known as The Encyclopedia of Alcoholism. If you have a smartphone, you can access this on the website of a reputable Las Vegas DUI attorney before you decide whether to drive. Otherwise, you’d be wise to look this up and figure out how many drinks will take you to the legal limit in Nevada of 0.08 BAC, as well as the time factor. It depends on your weight and how quickly you drink. This is obviously not an exact science, but it will give you a fairly good idea of what condition you’re in. Still, you should try to arrange for another form of transportation if you’re going to have anything over a 0.02 BAC.
